System Volume Information viruses
Hi,I use a good anti-virus software and I have a question. Why does it seem that you see a good many viruses in the system volume information area?Is it a paticular target for hackers to place trojans and viruses or is it that at one point you used system restore and created a restore point that contained a virus that you were not aware of??I know that system restore and indexing info is kept there.Just curious. Thanks alot for the forum!

Hi harry754, and welcome to TSF.

The best way to deal with those is to flush out old restore points, and set a new clean one.

Re: System Volume Information viruses
Thanks, I kinda of figured it was something like that but did not just delete restore points as I use Winsafe XP to back up my system files.I also had read to leave the hidden system volume area alone as it could have dratic problems if you just jumped in and started deleting stuff.I guess I should go and introduce myself.I have been looking for a forum that offers the help that you provide.I build my own rigs and have alot of fun doing it.I hope that perhaps I can be of help to someone out there.I have built AMD and Intel machines.I am partial to AMD.Thanks again I hope to be a regular.harry754

Hi again, harry754 -

Here's some useful info about System Restore http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#8 Deleting individual points breaks the chain. I'm still not sure why some protection apps delete individual points. I suppose there may be arguments on both sides of the issue, but I go with the more cautious, and leave individual points alone. Please do have a look around the rest of the forums. We have an excellent Hardware Support section, with a Building subforum. If you can offer any help to members, feel free to chime in. Cheers!
