Malware protection suggestions

I had a spook from a recent infection. It was a very vicious one which got past my protection --windows defender and AVG free-- AVG caught some of it, so I'd like to hang onto it, but I need more protection. Can someone suggest a supplemental to it.

I like SuperAntispyware and spy bot. Malwarebytes is popular too, but it didn't work so well for me.

I like Malwarebytes. Got rid of a couple things that McAfee couldn't. Though these things are, like you said, supplementary, so I don't see a problem with grabbing even two or three for scans time to time.

I'd also grab browser plugins like SiteAdvisor.
