I have vista home premium on presario F700.
In April I couldn't access the internet. After contacting service provider, router, and Norton - Norton uninstalled (360) and reinstalled for me. They said the reason I was having problems was because my subscription had expired. I renewed. Noticed repeat update notices some BUT my problem became an real issue when I couldn't access the internet again. "Cannot display the web page. Plugged, unplugged, contacted service provider, router company, microsoft, and Norton again. Norton stepped me through uninstalling but said they couldn't help me anymore cause I still couldn't get on the internet. Repeated everything again and all pointed to Norton. I found my list of firewalls (where I don't know because I am not computer savvy). It listed Norton firewall ON and Windows firewall off. It will not let me access the Norton to turn it off. I contacted Norton again. Did a system restore, uninstall and they said all the norton "stuff" was not really there. Hmm. Tried to remove all the norton and symantic things I could find. Still shows firewall on, all internet "stuff" stopped. Can anyone help? If I ever get this problem fixed - well Norton and Vista just don't seem to relate very well. |

Re: Cant get Norton firewall off my vista
Norton uninstall process almost always leaves traces behind and never fully uninstalls the software. I always have to run this tool (link below) on other PC's to completely remove the Norton products.

Re: Cant get Norton firewall off my vista
Hi mcklbk,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team. Norton 360 is fully compatible with Windows Vista, and I can assist you in making sure it is installed and configured correctly. First, run Windows Update and make sure that you have all of the Microsoft patches applied to Vista. Next, follow the steps below to properly uninstall Norton 360 and then install the latest version. 1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool: Norton Removal Tool and instructions 2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well. 3. Click on the link below and select the "Download" button under Norton 360 to download the latest installer. Download the latest Norton 360 installer 4. The installation process for Norton 360 version 3 should take no more than a few minutes to complete. 5. When the installation is complete, launch Norton 360, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates." When the updates have been installed, restart your computer. 6. Norton 360 does contain a full-featured Firewall, unlike Windows Vista, and the installation of Norton 360 should disable the Windows Firewall so that there are no conflicts. 7. In Windows Vista, open the Control Panel and then open the "Security Center." You should see "On" next to each of the categories and if you click on the arrow next to each of them it should indicate that Norton 360 is turned "On". If any of the categories show "Off,", then please repeat step # 5 listed above to manually run LiveUpdate again. Make sure you restart after LiveUpdate is complete. You should now be able to connect to the internet. If you still have problems connecting, open Norton 360, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Run Scans." Select "Comprehensive Scan" to scan your computer for infections. Thank you, Mike Quote:
