how did it happen
A company notice came around at work ...apparently some one downloaded via a pop up (there theory!?)..somthing which allowed an outside party to tap into the company broad band and use it to send spam ...total cost to fix $4000 $1500 in additional broad band use....Question ...how was it done?...company reckon they are running up to date virus protection etc...

Probably downloaded a backdoor program that allowed them access. There are numerous ways to do something like this.

Re: how did it happen
Or...perhaps someone plopped an infected USB drive into one of the network machines...and it was off and running.
