Quick Question re. Installation of AV's

Hi,

Probably a silly question but here goes. I've decided to replace my current AV (McAfee) with NOD32 but I'm told you should only run one AV.

My question is, when installing the new AV should I; a) uninstall the old one first and then install the new one, or b) simply disable the old one and run with the new one until I'm happy with it, before uninstalling the old one?

The reason I ask is the machine came with McAfee installed so I don't have a fall back position if I uninstall it and have trouble with the new one.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Quick Question re. Installation of AV's

You should download the new one ( if necessary ) . . disconnect from the internet and uninstall MCafee . . reboot . . then install the new one.

You definately do not want more than one AV running and in my opinion, not McAfee.

See this if yopu have problems uninstalling McAfee:

Re: Quick Question re. Installation of AV's

You will have a lot of conflicts if you have two AVs running at the same time. And i agree with simpswr, you would be better off without McAfee.

Re: Quick Question re. Installation of AV's

Thanks for the responses guys. It was always my intention to run with only one AV but I just wasn't sure if I should simply disable, or completely uninstall, the old one first.

I think I'll go for the uninstall option, rather than the disable option, and hope I don't have any issues with the new download.

Thanks for the link to the MCPR tool, it should come in useful.

Keep up the good work.

Rob.
