IE-SPYAD does not play well with IE8

IE-SPYAD installs thousands of entries into your "blocked sites" list. Although this is a fine idea in principle, it has a problem in practice: After installing Internet Explorer 8, I found that it took nearly a full minute to launch a blank page.

Until this performance bug in IE8 is fixed, I suggest that you using IE-SPYAD if you want to use IE8. Note that the folks at funkytoad.com agree with this assessment, and recommend against using IE-SPYAD with IE8.

Re: IE-SPYAD does not play well with IE8

Hi arkoenig -

Thanks.

I'm never in any rush to add the "new and shiny" from MS.

**Internet Explorer 8 is not behaving well with large quantities of Restricted Sites.
I do not recommend installing IE-SPYADS if you are running IE8.**
This is also reportedly an issue when using Spybot's Immunization feature.

Note:

These are not the fault of these applications, but of how MS and IE8 are handling large numbers of domains in restricted zones, which is what Spybot Immunize and IE-Spyad do, as well as SpywareBlaster.

@Donna: We have determined that there is a problem with the SpyBot Search and Destroy "innoculate" feature which puts 10000 domains in the restricted sites list.

Re: IE-SPYAD does not play well with IE8

@Donna says "It's possible" that a large restricted-sites list is causing the performance problems.

I am almost certain of it. The reason is that with SpywareBlaster + IE-SPYAD, it takes IE8 nearly a minute to launch a blank page. After blowing away the registry key with restricted sites and reinstalling SpywareBlaster (but IE-SPYAD), startup takes only a few seconds.

I am guessing that IE8 is caching that registry key on startup, and that it is using a quadratic algorithm to do so.
