Re: should i switch from mcafee to avast
yeah great idea!! Mcafee is (how do i say politely) utter crap!! You would be much better off running avast or antivir which are both free and very light on resources..

Re: should i switch from mcafee to avast
well i've never used mcafee but i have used avg and avast . i have actually seen avg totally miss an active malware while it was running whereas avast detected it and cleaned it . avast also has wide coverage . for me it's down to system efficiency and because we all have different setups it varies for the individual . i personally use avira free because i found the avast interface confusing because i am 53 !!! what works for YOU is the right one . it's avira for me . you won't really know until you try for yourself but you know what the 100% av is . . . . . a large helping of your own COMMON SENSE . i know people who have never been infected online and who only use windows firewall and drive sentry on a clean machine . try everything on trial basis and see for yourself - do not pay money for huge commercial programmes - it can be done perfectly well for free . cheers peter in the uk

Re: should i switch from mcafee to avast
Avast pro is (essentially) the same as Avast home, but has a couple of additional features, for example script blocking and command-line scanning. For normal, home protection (if you use your computer for business purpose, you need to get the pro version), Avast home is fine.
It would also be advisable to get an external firewall (turn of Windows Firewall if you get another), see this post for more information. Also, I saw that you had SUPERAnti-Spyware. Avast has built-in Anti-Spyware and Anti-Rootkit, so I wouldn't have thought this to be necessary. Hope I've helped. EDIT: Avast version comparison here http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-compa...fessional.html
