Security - should I use 2 physical hard drives?
My PC seems to be playing up and I suspect it's due to a virus etc. I'm following the instructions to scan it via DDS etc. The experience has been interesting and has made me wonder about the best way to store my programmes and work data.
I built the machine myself and thought I was being smart when I partitioned the hard-drive into C and D partitions and put the OS on the C partition and kept my work data on the D partition. Now I have a pc problem - I can't give my pc and drive to a repair company without passing across my private / work data, which I'm not to comfortable doing, and although I have taken a back-up of the data I'm not too happy about reformatting the d drive just to hide the data. I know - I can't have it both ways. If I did a machine rebuild is it more sensible to alwaye have 2 separate hard drives so that the private data can physically be removed from the machine and are there any other advantages when it comes to virus scanning / preventing infections occuring? Any thoughts will be gratefully received. Cheers, Mark |

Re: Security - should I use 2 physical hard drives?
I dunno about the virus scanning if it matters if you have 2 separate HDD's but I use NOD32 for ANti VIrus
if you do get HDD's get a whatever sizes you want, it all depends on how much data needs to be backed up but Keeping all the Backup Data on a non OS drive would be fine C: has XP D: whould be designated as the backup drive with whatever amount of room you need. Remember DVD's are a viable backup solution too |
