My computer is about two months old. I was really fast when I first used it, but now it isn't very fast. It takes about 10sec. to open firefox or IE. I have downloaded several programs via torrent (I know, no more of that!). I had some type of malware/virus about a month ago and did a system restore. Now my computer has been running slow again. Every few day I get redirected to a site to download "Antivirus 360" I think was the name. I think only happens on IE. I use norton 360 2.5. I just checked the "view statistics" feature the other day and was surprised to see that norton had blocked 3 viruses, 17 malicious software programs and 211 intrusion attempts. I decided to download and install the comercial keylogger "superspypro" to see if norton would pick it up and it didn't. So since I knew there may have been other malware I insttalled counterspy and on my first scan, which took 245 minutes, found trojan-uploader.bzw and behaveslike.dos.virus, plus the keylogger.
Now first, what can I do to further improve security(besides no p2p), and second what can I do to speed up the pc. I have tuneuputilities 2009 installed and have done registry clean, dskchk, delete temp files, limited startup apps, and followed all of its speed recomendations. Anyone know anything that I should do? A little help would be very much appreciated. I tried to install dds, but says it doesnt support my os. Also ran your malware scan gmer before installing counterspy, found nothing. Re: Computer OK or not?
Here's some info on the "Anti-Virus 360" I would download malwarebytes, and run it. I'm personally not a big fan of any Symantec products nothing but bloat ware, it will bring a "fast" machine to a crawl. I run AVG on all computers, and also run a modified host file, plus malwarebytes, and spybot search and destroy
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malw...-antivirus-360 http://www.malwarebytes.org http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm You need to remove your trojans, malware, and virus's then your computer will be as fast as new |

Re: Computer OK or not?
Just what you said alp. After doing some reading here in tsf, I did the hosts file thing, also unistalled counterspy trial(wanted something free) and got spyblaster and mbam. mbam found several vundu in registry and a couple other things. The hosts file replacement- I was just supposed to "send to" replace the old hosts file with the new file also named host file, right? Seems like at least one of those things worked though cause my machine is faster and I am not constantly hearing my computer make those thinking noises.
