I'd like to download and install MBAM. There aooears it be a bunch of links to get to the files. However, I've become more than a 'little' bit nervous (after reading how clever the bad guys are) about where I'd really end up after clicking on a link to get to the download.

Anyone got any hints about where to get the 'honest' files and how to make sure that they won't actually install some nasties?

Are you talking about Malwarebytes anti-malware. The official site and download from there should be quite safe. Try here:
