Email address on blacklist?

The email account I normally use is one that the college I attended assigned me. I have been forwarding alot of emails I receive from an online magazine to my Yahoo email account. Apparently Yahoo thought my college account was spam because of all the forwarding and all my messages from the college email now go to spam folder whenever I email Yahoo. This doesn't really concern me as I can always use my Yahoo email to email someone else on Yahoo.

The problem is that I am worried that because Yahoo thinks my email adress is spam then maybe it has been added to a blacklist for spammers and now any other email service will also think it is spam. For example if i email someone with a hotmail account or a corporate account (ex. someone@ibm.com).

So my question is this: Just because Yahoo thinks your email address is spam, does that mean they add it to a shared blacklist and other email services will also send your emails to the junk mailbox, or is Yahoo's spam protection private and only Yahoo will keep sending my emails to the junk box.

Re: Email address on blacklist?

Why don't you mark the messages you forwarded from your college account to yahoo as "not spam" on yahoo mail so that they will know it is legitimate and not spam? Most email services rely on their users to train the spam engine by marking and unmarking email as spam or not so that they can do a better classification job in the future. If you just let it go and not train it correctly, then the problem will never get corrected. I don't know whether a global blacklist is maintained and shared, but if you do a good job of telling yahoo what is and isn't spam, then you don't have to worry about it.

Re: Email address on blacklist?

I did hit the not spam button on my yahoo account, but even after it started sending my college email messages to the regular inbox on my own yahoo account, I decided to test other yahoo email accounts and emailed a couple others and got them to check and it went to the spam box there. They clicked on the not spam button for me as well, but it seems that any yahoo address I email it will send it to the spam box until the user clicks on not spam, so this is why I am worried.

I tried to do some research online on blacklists, and it indicated it had to do with your computer ip address and not the specific email address, but yahoo will accept other emails I send from other email accounts I opened to test it (hotmail, gmail) on my computer, so it appears that my specific college email address has been flagged by Yahoo. According to the research i did there are global blacklists that are maintained as services to different email services, but in order to get put on one, an email user has to specifically put your address on one - kind of like a no-call list I guess. So what I am wondering is if Yahoo flags my address as spam, does it automatically get sent to those global lists, or just one maintained by Yahoo.
