Think I JUST got a Virus from Email!

Ok I opened up a Stupid Email thinking it was something else, anyways it said I won some money, different money than US though, anyways after that my Monitor Blinked Twice, my Inter Explorer 7 Install I had going said it couldn't finish, so I opened up my AVG and it said something like it was missing the Shortcut. So I got on the Internet downloaded the Newest one and when I ran it it said the same thing. Could this be a Virus or am I over reacting.
If So then Why

Did my AVG not Open? Both New and Old.
IE 7 SETUP not Finish?
Why did the newer AVG I downloaded Download even though IE7 Didn't?
