Can't boot normal [Moved from XP]

I can't boot in normal mode. The win XP screen starts and the status bar increases then it tries to reboot then goes to the boot page. If I choose safe mode with networking, I can boot up in safe mode and I can get online, check my email, surf the net without a problem. I was able to run Malwarebytes and it pulled out two Vundo trojans. Ran spybot and it pulled out a w32 trojan. AVG 8 in the command line mode and it was clean with several locked files. The PC runs fast as if nothing was wrong. Not sure if this is related. IE 7 will not open via the icon. I get a message saying ie exporer 7 exe file could not be found. Went to windows explorer and tried to open it there and I got the same message. Downloaded and installed Firefox so I can get on the Internet. Went into MSCONFIG and tried a diagnostic startup and same problem encountered. Tried to install AdAware, Superantispyware remover and ccleaner but couldn't because I received a message indicating the administrator didn't allow it. The problem started last week.

I'm using Win XP Home w/SP3.

Re: Can't boot normal

Hello cojack47

Your system is still infected and I think you need some help to clean it up.

Please read “HijackThis Log Help” and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information as instructed in the Virus Help Forum
Please ensure that you create a new thread in the Help Forum; not back here in this one.

Please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

I am helping someone and apparently, his Son tried to fix a problem. Suspected Malware. Installed and ran Smitfraud, Malwarebytes, and a few other goodies to try to clean it up. He doesn't think they updated drivers.

Re: Can't boot normal [Moved from XP]

I moved your topic to the security section but if you want proper help from our security analysts you'll need to follow these instructions and post the resulting logs in a new thread in the virus/trojan/spyware help section as instructed.

Re: Can't boot normal [Moved from XP]

As stated at the top of this forum....

This forum is not for malware removal assistance. For malware removal assistance, read the sticky topic at the top of the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum, or the "First Steps" link at the top right of each page.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:
Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps
link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

We look for 0 reply topics, so this topic having so many posts already would not be conducive to you receiving help. You may link back to this topic if you wish.

HijackThis was good in it's day, but very limited for today's infections. This is why it is no longer our baseline analysis tool.

That said...with all you've done already, and the symptoms you're describing, you may want to consider a repair install or reinstall.
