[SOLVED] Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
Hi,
Currently, I have both Avast (v4.8 Home Edition) and AVG Free (v8.0.176) installed (and, yes, running) on my machine. Everything I've read on this site has convinced me this isn't a good idea. I'm going to keep Avast so do I need to completely uninstall AVG or can I simply de-activate it? I've also read that completely un-installing can sometimes be a little tricky for certain A/V products. Would this be the case with AVG? One other thing - I've also got Spybot S+D (1.6.0.30) installed. Do I need to turn its 'teatimer' off and, if so, how? Cheers, Kim Last edited by davies63; 01-01-2009 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
Even having the drivers still installed, though you may disable parts of AVG, might still present potential for system conflict.
We would recommend a complete uninstall of AVG if your intent is to use Avast. AVG should uninstall cleanly, but they also have a removal tool. http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Re: Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
Ok, many thanks.
The AVG site gives two remover options - 32- and 64-bit versions. How will I find out which to use? And about the 'teamtimer' on Spybot? Any advice please? Kim |

Re: Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
Matter of opinion and choice. I have nothing against the app, and I said it was my preference. I like Spybot's scanner just fine.

Re: Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
Feedback:
- kellys-korner confirmed that my OS is 32bit - Add/Remove Programs did (or, to my uneducated eyes at least, appeared to) successfully uninstall AVG - I can't find out how to turn TeaTimer off anyway so, as you say that it shouldn't cause conflict, I'm going to just leave it as it is Once again, thank you for your time and effort. Re: [SOLVED] Two quick questions on the "two Anti-Virus products" subject
If you change your mind about disabling Tea-Timer, or just want to experiment to see if it has any effect, open Spybot and click Tools in the left menu, then click Resident.
