Norton anti-virus problems
I installed Norton 2009 antivirus on my computer the other day. As I was installing it, it said it was removing other norton products, but it didn't. Norton systemworks basic edition is still on my computer and it says I'm at risk even thought norton 2009 says everything's fine. it says I am at risk because the virus protection has been turned off (by the 2009 version for some reason) and when i try to fix it, it doesn't allow me to. It says mcafee virus protection has been turned off and it won't allow me to turn it back on. I tried contacting norton, but there is like a 4 hour wait on the phone.

If I understand you correctly, you seem to have at least two problems.First, you are currently running (or have installed) at least two Antivirus products: Norton Antivirus 2009 and McAfee Antivirus. That is a no-no, as they will conflict with each other. You can only run one and the other should be uninstalled. This is what I would recommend: 1 - Be sure you have your Norton Antivirus 2009 installation disc and Product Key handy. The Product Key sticker should be located on the back of the disc envelope. 2 - Read and follow the directions to download and save the "Norton Removal Tool" to your desktop. You can download it from the Symantec website here: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&ssfromlink=true&sprt_cid=1a13409b-29db-4397-a286-9dec49f8e252&seg=hho&ct=us&lg=en&docurl=20080828154508EN Do not run it yet, just save it to your desktop for now. 3 - There is also a McAfee Removal tool available on the McAfee website. Unfortunately, when I try to access it for the address I get a page error. Maybe you will have better luck. If you can download it, also save it to your desktop. 4 - Turn off your modem, router, etc. to disconnect your system from the Internet for now. 5 - Uninstall the McAfee Antivirus through "Add/Remove Programs". Restart your computer. If you were able to download the McAfee removal tool and save it to your desktop, follow the directions to run it now. 6 - Double click and run the Norton Removal Tool that you previously saved to your desktop. Follow the directions and restart your computer. 7 - Reconnect your system to the Internet. This is necessary for Norton Antivirus 2009 to install properly. 8 - Insert your Norton Antivirus 2009 disc and follow the instructions to reinstall Norton AV 2009. Hopefully if there are no other underlying problems (viruses, trojans, malware etc.), once you remove your old McAfee and Norton utilities, you should be able to reinstall Norton AV 2009 and run smoothly. If I misunderstood your question/problem, I apologize. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Re: Norton anti-virus problems
Mcafee antivirus is downloaded, but it won't run for some reason. I'm not sure if mcafee is the problem. i'm not able to remove the program because it's not listed in the remove programs list. i think if mcafee was the problem systemworks would have not worked before i installed norton antivirus 2009. I think the problem is norton 2009 conflicting with systemworks 2006. When I open systemworks it says i'm at risk, like i said, and when i ask to fix now it just lists mcaffee antivirus and to the left of that there is an x. but as long as 2009 antivirus says everything's fine and spysweeper doesn't see any problems, i'm fine, right? i'm still concerned about this winspymonitor program i found on spysweeper. i quarantined it and deleted it. then i downloaded a newer version of spysweeper, which says nothing is wrong. so hopefully its not still on there. is there any way i can tell? i don't know what this DDS program is that this site says i should download. i don't want to put out any information that is personally identifiable or could put me at risk. thanks for the reply
