Can you get a virus thru your screensaver?

Or from your screensaver?

A secretary told me that thier computer person said to "turn off thier screensavers. You can get a virus from them." If so, how?

Thanks in advance.

It is not from the operation of a screen saver, it is from the downloading of a screen saver that may contain a virus.

Re: Can you get a virus thru your screensaver?

They are screensavers that came with Windows.

Thanks for replying.

Re: Can you get a virus thru your screensaver?

I see no reason to run a screensaver, they do one thing and well is they mess up programs. If you have a monitor made in the last 7 years they don't burn. It's old outdated technology, turn off the screensaver and schedule the monitor to go off in 1 hour. You will see a better performing computer.

How do Windows screensavers mess up programs? Do they take up a lot of resource?

My PC, bed, TV, are all in the same room. I like seeing the windows screensaver. It is like having an Aquarium.

Thank you all for replying.

No they don't take up resources your screensaver that is plus if you go out you caan always put screensaver lock on. the lock is the same as before you log on to your computer if you have a password protected computer

The only resource your computer would eat would be some extra electricity. A screensaver is not a game so your graphics won't be working hard.
