Application Conflict/Overlap?

Hiya i currently have the following apps on my computer and was wondering if there was any overlap and could i therefore lose some without compromising security. They are: WinPatrol, SpywareBlaster,MalwareBytes Anti-malware, Spybot Search and Destroy and finally AOL spyware protection(this came with my ISP provider). BTW i intend also to install the Comodo Firewall. Thanks.

Re: Application Conflict/Overlap?

Hello -

You don't mention a dedicated AntiVirus application. None of those are. An AntiVirus application is a critical component of computer security.

Depends on which versions of the products you have. If they're all the free versions, there should be no conflict.

Of those, I personally, would drop the AOL Spyware protection. WinPatrol and SpywareBlaster work in the background and use little in the way of system resources. They also protect differently. I use both on my system.

MBAM, if free, is an on demand scanner. Only it's paid version has real time protection. Spybot S&D uses it's TeaTimer component as registry protection, and has other system protection components, in addition to being an on demand scanner. Some of that is duplicated in WinPatrol.

Re: Application Conflict/Overlap?

Hiya, i have NOD32 AV, the MBAM is the paid version, the others Winpatrol and Spywareblaster are the free versions. BTW when trying to install Comodo i repeatedly get the message "install dialogue" and unable to install and then something to do with Packard Bell Companion msi. And a dialogue box appears with a long line of text.

Re: Application Conflict/Overlap?

Good choice of AV.

I don't care much for Comodo. It caused BSOD on my laptop.

I uninstalled it.

Many people have better experiences with Comodo. If you're determined to install it, they have their own support forum.
