Uninstall NIS 2005?

How do I uninstall NIS 2005 from our notebook (WinXPsp3 / IE 7)?

Some say to use Add/Remove; others say to use a "Symantec NIS 2005 Removal Tool."

If the "Symantec NIS 2005 Removal Tool" would be preferable, where would I find it?

How do I remove remnants of NIS 2005 that might be left behind? Would using the "Symantec NIS 2005 Removal Tool" remove everything?

I am novice!

Thank you,
Alice

Re: Uninstall NIS 2005?

Hello Alice,

I think this is what you are looking for...

Norton ® Removal Tools. (Click the coloured Link.)

Kind Regards,

Re: Uninstall NIS 2005?

Thank you. Would you know which uninstall method is preferred for removing NIS 2005?
Using the Control Panel's Add/Remove, or the Symantec Removal Tool?

I notice in the Add/Remove that there are four Norton Symantec files:
LiveReg = 1.79 MB and LiveUpdate 3.0 = 7.09 MB.
NIS = 38 MB and Norton Security Center = 4 MB)
I guess if I had to use the Add/Remove, I would have to delete all 4 of them. Correct?

Re: Uninstall NIS 2005?

Hi.
The norton removal tool would be the preferred method as removing using add/remove is likely to leave remnants of norton behind. This could cause problems when trying to install new security software

Would you (or someone else) know answer to part 2 of my question? Regarding the 4 Norton Files in the Add/Remove. I would like to know for my own information.

Re: Uninstall NIS 2005?

First use Add/Remove to uninstall everything related to Norton/Symantec . . Including the LiveReg, LiveUpdate and NIS . . Then run the Norton Removal tool to clean any remaining files/registry entries

You would need to run add/remove for all 4 norton programs.
