Cant connect to internet after spyware

I had some spyware that I thought I got rid of. I used spybot search and destroy and I had a virtumonde.dll virus. Now everytime I try to connect to the internet on my desktop I get a error saying it cant connect. Im sitting on my laptop now and everything is working fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and IE with no avail. I have run AVG, Spybot, Adaware, and tried opening Norton but it wont open. I ran Hijackthis but dont know how to read it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, I cannot update any of my virus/spyware/adware programs.

Sounds like the machine is still infected.
