Cannot uninstall trial AVG version or install free version

I hate to create a new post, but my other one isn't really titled correctly, and this is something I need to get resolved tonight because I won't have access to this laptop after tonight.

The problem is that I the trial version expired and my son fooled around with it and then I tried to correct the problem. This is what I've tried so far..

1. Uninstalling the trial version using the uninstall program in the program files folder. I get an error message stating that the program is not installed. The program does not show up in add/remove programs, so can't attempt that way. It is clearly still installed because the program file folder still exists and I can open the interface that tells me it's expired.

2. Downloaded and attempted to reinstall the trial version to fix the current install so I could then try to uninstall it. I didn't get a prompt during the install telling me that there's a version already installed, it took me all the way to the point of entering the license code and a code appears automatically and when I hit next it states that the code is expired.

3. I've tried to install the free version, but the same thing happens, the license code appears in the box and if I hit next it says it's expired, if I clear the code and leave the field blank it says the code is expired.

4. I downloaded and tried to run the AVG removal tool from the AVG website and halfway through I get an error and it stops running.

None of the standard uninstall or reinstall or fix installation stuff is working. This is a deeper problem than that.

Re: Cannot install trial AVG version or install free version

Try using Revo Uninstaller, it's very good. Or, if you already have CCleaner installed, there is a built-in uninstaller under Tools within the app, which also works pretty well.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a laptop for my son to use in college. We attempted to install AVG but it conflicted with other security apps and caused all sorts of issues. While it's an excellent AV program, it does sometimes cause problems. We resorted to installing NOD32, but there are other good free AV apps you might want to try.
