Need recommendation for antivirus and firewall

Hello people,

until recently I have used Zone Alarm Pro as firewall and Mcafee antivirus 8.5i. I had problems with ZoneAlarm in the begining until I set up all details. From time to time, I'm not able to open some web pages (like dictionaries and even web page of my ISP) and this is because ZoneAlarm.
My friend suggest me to deinstall Zonealarm and to use other software which has built in firewall nad antivirus.

Can you recommend me something?

I'd not like something that needs a lot of memory resources.
Which type of protection is suitable for average home user with a lot of Internet activity....?

Thanks

Re: Need recommendation for antivirus and firewall

This sort of thread pops up pretty often and usually most folks have differing opinions on what works best for their systems. Personally, I like either NOD32 or Kaspersky (Nod is less expensive), Comodo, even with its learning period, and two separate antispyware apps - whichever you happen to prefer.

I think that with nearly all combinations of security software, there's bound to be a site occasionally which your setup, whatever the set of apps, that will not want to cooperate.

FWIW, if you're going to pay for an AV, I think there are many better than Mcafee: I've already mentioned two; TrendMicro is another.

Re: Need recommendation for antivirus and firewall

Well i used to use zone alarm as it was the first firewall introduced to me but i have switched to comodo for the past year and it is working great. Updates come regularly like once a month compared to zone alarm which does not update regularly...

As for antivirus, i would prefer AVG 8 (paid or free). It doesn't use that much system resources, user friendly and best of all it updates once a day sometimes even twice a day.

However, it is entirely up to a person. Once person's food may be another person's poison. Try out the free version of a few security software and judge it yourself. Anyway, never have more than 2 type of the same security software installed. For example, no 2 AV or 2 firewall. One AV, one firewall will do

Re: Need recommendation for antivirus and firewall

i used to recommend AVG and zone alarm, but many people have been having problems with them recently. once they fix these problems, i will recommend them again.
comodo has a fine reputation as a firewall. you should stick with that choice.
at the moment i recommend avast free AV. it's a solid AV, and no problems at the moment. they've always had a high detection rate.

Must be me - I've never had any issues with AVG8 or ZA - but I appreciate that many people have had problems. Any of the recommendations made will do just fine.
