installing antispyware
Been doing some reading here at TSF, and have come to the conclusion I need more antispyware. As I understand it, you can have more than one scanner, but only one realtime blocker, I have comodo BOClean 4.26 realtime blocker, no scanner, now I am getting ready to add spybot S&D, as a scanner. If someone knows of another antispyware that definitly works with what I've got, I'm game. Otherwise, here are my questions
In the select components section of Spybot S&D Setup, do I want full install? Will the Security Center Intergration or Explorer plugin conflict with BOClean? Also on the additional tasks page, will the IE protection or tea timer conflict with the BOClean? I was also reading about the latest Windows update for windows defender, the malware update, is that something I still need to install? Windows Vista, Home Edition, PC Tools AV, Comodo Firewall Pro, and the BOClean, that's what I've got going now, like I said no problems, just want to avoid conflicts, I've had too good of luck with vista to just go willy nilly with it |

Re: installing antispyware
skepticali,
your philosophy is alot like mine. it has worked for me for 2 years. i don't have a real-time antispyware running, just kaspersky AV, but i scan with several antispyware programmes daily. i prefer safe mode to scan. this definitely solves the problem of conflict. tea timer will definitely conflict with your boclean. teatimer is real-time protection. i also use adaware to scan, but the box in the services needs to be checked to update, then i uncheck it. superantispyware can be real-time. i use it on-demand also. there is a box in the system config that i leave unchecked. this programme is very easy to use. updates easy, scans good, and you can customize. same thing for asquared free. there's a box you can leave unchecked. malwarebytes is a malware scanner. the free version is perfect for on-demand scanning. a well thought out programme. when i am done computing, i just boot into safe mode and run through the list of them. |

Re: installing antispyware
I saw the Malwarebytes and noticed the free version had no real time scanner
In running the different kinds, I assume the theory is that one may catch what another misses And I'll admit, I have not messed around in safe mode, I'll have to read up on that |

Re: installing antispyware
the malwarebytes is a perfect compliment to safe mode, in fact, they all are. in safe mode, the only programme that runs is the one you're using. once you're done with it, it completely shuts down. no conflict.

On the 2nd thing, The windows update that failed, Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool- July 2008 (KB890830), do I need to go back and install that, or are these antispyware programs covering that? |

Re: installing antispyware
i do download those things (malicious removal tool), but i don't even know how to use them, or how they work. the part of the update i don't install is the killbit. i have heard that it can be used against third party programmes.
always remember the detection could be a false positive, and deleting/disinfecting can be harmful. keep in mind that there's no guarantee that there won't be conflict. if there is a problem, you may not know which new programme is causing it. keep an eye on your system config. any boxes checked there in the startup or services can indicate running processes, thus problems. it's all about finding the infection. removing it is great as well, but there are many ways to do that. don't ever download a programme you're not sure about. one mistake and all your hard work will be wasted tenfold. we would be glad to help you with that. we don't like it when members get hammered by a rogue (bad) programme (it makes us angry). here is a respected website that is an authority. www.spywarewarrior.com |

Re: installing antispyware
Thanks for the info, I'm a nervous nancy when it comes to downloading, I research everything, even if someone puts a link in a forum and they replace the link with a word like here
I quote the post like I'm going to reply to it to see the BBCode, so I can make sure where I'm going, and I do that no matter who is posting. I guess that's why I put "skeptic" in my user name ![]() But your advice is correct, it can happen to anyone, it just takes one slip The false positive was going to be my next question, so I'm going to go get a few more free ones, run them in safe mode and see what they say thanks buddy |
