Problem with Norton Internet Security 2008

I had Norton Internet security 2007 and then the thing said to upgrade before my subscription was up so i upgraded to the 2008 version. A couple days after i had downloaded i had clicked the shortcut on the desktop and the one in its program folder and it would open. is there any way i could force the program to open?

lilman4evur,
forgive me, i can't quite understand what is going on. does the programme open? how? maybe it's just me, but some clarification would help. it seems like you're saying that it opens.

Re: Problem with Norton Internet Security 2008

I think the OP means that neither the desktop icon, nor the program folder would open and start the app after the update.

If that's the case, I think I'd be inclined to contact Symantec and ask for assistance. Normally, I'd just suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling, but I don't know how that would work with a problem with a paid app like Norton.

Re: Problem with Norton Internet Security 2008

that is correct advice qbawl, to uninstall and reinstall (don't forget to reboot in between). you may also need to temporarily disable your firewall.
symantec charges for phone support (which is an awful policy), and the best dedicated forum i can think of is www.castlecops.com, so options are limited. that's a great website just like this one
make sure that you don't have remnants, processes, or another programme, for that matter, conflicting with symantec.
if you're using a trial version, this may be an indication of what is to come. occasionally we get symantec reps visiting us here. it would sure be nice if one visited us now.

Hi lilman4evur,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your posting about Norton Internet Security.

The symptoms you describe point to a corrupted installation. Please follow the steps below to properly remove and then reinstall Norton Internet Security.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton Internet Security 2008. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

After you have reinstalled Norton Internet Security it is recommended that you run a "Full System Scan" to check for infections.

Thank you,
Mike
