Hi everyone!
Well, I have used AVG for a few years now and I really like it but over the past few days, it has given me a headache! I recently downloaded the latest version of AVG 8.0 and it scanned well and appeared to be working fine. A few days ago, I tried to open it and I got this error message: AVG has encountered a problem and needs to close. I can't access the anything on the AVG Interface, but it still allows me to update AVG, I just can't access the main menu, etc. What is going on here? Do I have a virus or some kind of other nasty? I also have Spybot and Ad-Aware on my pc, did those scans, and they came up clean. Please help! Thanks so much! :) |

Re: What's going on with my AVG?
Hi CrissyCakes, and welcome to TSF.
![]() If you have a look through this part of the forums you will find that many users have had similar problems. If you hang around here awhile i'm sure someone will give you advice on how to solve the problem. Or you can take the shortcut like i did, i also thought AVG 7.5 was great....until they decided to upgrade it and i really couldn't be bothered anymore. Take a look Here. I am now using Avira Antivir Personal Edition, its free, easy to download and easy to use, pretty much like AVG used to be. You do get a rather irritating pop-up enticing you to upgrade but you just click ok at the bottom and its gone. Heres the link if you decide to go with it, Avira Antivir Personal Edition. Don't forget that you need to uninstall AVG though, its not good to have 2 AV programs on your system at the same time. Hope this helps. Regards, Dave.

Re: What's going on with my AVG?
Hi Dave!
Thanks for the welcome and link to some great information! I really like Spybot and Ad-Aware as they both pick up on different things that the other one misses in scanning. I want to keep both on my pc so hopefully I will be able to do so! Thanks again for the info and for responding quickly! :) |

Re: What's going on with my AVG?
adaware has a checkbox on the services tab in msconfig, and spybot may also be running teatimer on your machine. it may help to disable those portions of those two programmes, but i doubt it.
i use adaware and spybot as on-demand scanners only with no running processes. people are having trouble with AVG since the upgrade and many are switching to another AV. there is also avast, a well known, and reputable programme that keeps getting better and better. it's free as well. www.avast.com |
