We all want the best and everyone has different opinions...

IMHO - If you are looking for paid solutions then I would offer a choice of either ESET Smart Security or Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (both available on trial before you buy) for your main protection followed up with Malwarebytes Antimalware (free and paid versions depending on background scanning) for scanning for general Malware, you wont go much wrong with that sort of protection as long as you browse sensibly.

Also remember there are free products out there as well as paid....

kaspersky, nod32, bitdefender, and avira for antivirus is the most important decision. for antispyware i think spy sweeper and AVG are the best.
they have to work well on your computer without conflict, that's why it's so important to take advantage of the trial period.
zone alarm, comodo, and kerio are good firewalls, and there's free versions.

Re: I want the best virus/spyware/adware/firewall/everythingelse

I think everyone who posts will probably have differing opinions on this one. Personally, I like NOD and Kaspersky but NOD is less expensive. LOL

Comodo is my favorite firewall, but you've got to allow it to go through its "learning" process, which is a little annoying - but worthwhile.

Antispyware programs are so numerous it's hard to pick a favorite, but from everything I've read, you should probably use two separate apps. I think SpySweeper has been one of the best around for a while, but it's slow, IMO.

ThreatFire and SpywareBlaster are both pretty good at keeping malware from getting into your system, but neither can delete anything you may find during a scan.

Believe it or not, I've read many posts by people who think malware protection is an unnecessary drain on system resourses, as long as you "know what you're doing, and surf carefully." I disagree, for whatever that may be worth, and would never allow a Windows machine to go online unprotected.

You're probably going to have to do some research and a little trial and error in order to decide what suits you and your new machine best.

Edit: Congrats on the new laptop!
