Re: system shutdown

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You can stop Windows from shutting down by quickly going to Start> Run and typing shutdown -a. This will abort the shutdown in progress.

Then, try typing in this :

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe

If it still shuts down, it is possible that the file has been deleted or currupted. If you have a Windows disk the best way to check is to try Windows File Protection .
Go to Start > Run and type in

sfc /scannow click ok insert your xp installation cd when asked. It must be the installation CD, not the recovery CD.

Note there IS a space after "sfc".

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. Note that you will need to download Windows updates again as they will be lost during this process.
