Roll Eyes Antispycheck, and am I in the right place?!?

I am so glad to have found this website!

Could someone please help with my problem?

Two days ago an icon started flashing on our Taskbar warning us that 'System has detected a number of Spyware problems on our computer' etc. Having Norton 360, and thinking about going to AVG (any suggestions), we knew this was probably someone trying to 'get our money' or worse, so tried to get rid of the thing. Unfortunately it's proven hard. We know it's something called Antispycheck and takes you to their website. I have followed the instructions on the Symantec website and it seems to have sorted the problem on my husbands sign-in on the computer, but not on mine. We are not allowing our children to sign-in on theirs in case it makes the problem worse, it is probably all over the place again anyway.

I have tried downloading Spyhunter3 and scanned with that, but it has brought up so many other things a comprehensive scan with Norton 360 didn't find. (82 cookies, 30 registry problems, 2 memory and 5 files!) I have looked for some of these myself, I'm slightly computer literate, but can't find them. Who should I believe? (I have deleted Spyhunter so it doesn't cause problems with Norton) Do we have Malware, if so should I go to the Malware removal assistance? And how the heck did this thing get on in the first place when we didn't download it, has it come in with something else done on Sunday morning? I don't just want to start deleting files etc. in case I wreck the computer!

I'm starting to worry as doing full scans and even manually deleting the files Norton said hasn't completly helped. I don't want our personal information stolen or my boys to see stuff on the internet they shouldn't.

Can someone please help?

Thank you, Amy.

Re: Antispycheck, and am I in the right place?!?

Thanks Tetonbob,

Will do! Let's hope I get sorted soon, these System Alert messages are coming up about every 5 minutes, and seem to be coming more often when I'm trying to access things on the hard disk, makes you wonder if it's reacting to some things I do; they are getting REALLY ANNOYING!!!

Amy.
