I have a system a home. It was taken to some repair shop where they reformat the pc and loaded their own copy of XP on it. However, using their XP i notice that control panel, command prompt, safely removed hardware option, shut down, Ctrl+alt+del and several other features were disable by some administrator. So i run "gpedit" and open the group policy and to my surprise there were no configurations-all was well. I decided to reformat the pc and load my XP Home Edition and created an admin a/c for myself. All was well (everything was enabled) for about two weeks then to my shock the same problem reoccur. Every thing was disable again and the pc is telling me to contact that same strange administrator. I perceive that virus could do this but it was formatted right, so how could this be? I figure it must be some CMOS virus and i have never dealt with these before. Could someone help please
NB.. each time the pc boots an undesired message tell me that lsass.exe is missing just like before i formatted the system. ![]() |

Re: CMOS virus
When you tried accessing and changing elevated system privileges, you were signed on as Administrator or with an account possessing administrative rights, correct? That's what you will need but sometimes you may have to sign on as Admin. itself to change them. This is an infection causing it mostly.
Is your PC secured by software from malicious access and infection? If so, which ones? Did you install the latest Service Pack and security downloads as required? Your system looks to have some sort of vulnerability, or the places you visit or what you download, or what you install. A CMOS virus is a bit different and can't cause this, this is an OS-internet level problem. |

Re: CMOS virus
After formatting the PC i gave the default admin a/c a passsword- i remember that password. I then created three other admin a/c's. everything was working perfect then out of the blue the PC started acting up as first. Control panel disable etc. I then tried the default admin yet i'm black out of it...this is strange n i was jus wondering if anyone face anything like this b4..........
