Norton 360 unable to connect to liveupdate

Installed Norton 360 version 2.0. Unable to connect to liveupdate. Get the 18## error number. Norton support says I have a virus. I'm not convinced.
Searched the internet and it seems this has occurred to many other individuals. Any creative solutions? I can not directly connect to any symantec url. I also cannot connect to microsoft updates urls.

Check your hosts file. See if the URLs are being redirected.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial51.html

If so, it's quite possible Norton/Symantec support is right. In that case...

If you think your computer is infected....

Re: Norton 360 unable to connect to liveupdate

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I have removed any of the malware your lists identified as instructed in step 1.
Moved on to step 2., access and execute the Panda Activescan 2.0.
I registered ok. But when I request "Scan Your PC now", I seem to have trouble requesting the downloading of the Active X controls. A ballon popped-up and instructed me to click on the yellow bar. I saw no yellow bar. Anyway, now when I go to the pandasecurity.com/activescan/etc., I just sit there with the explorer trying to get a response.

I see in step 3, you want me to install Spyware Blaster. Am I reading the instructions correctly???

What should we do now??? I am trying to follow your instructions and no one elses. Thanks.

Yes, that's correct.

Be sure to reach Step 5. If you cannot complete any of the 5 steps for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed, and post your logs in The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you. However, it is important to make mention of any of the steps that you were not able to complete.

Once you post your logs at the HijackThis forum, please be patient and remember the Bumping Rules mentioned in Step 5, as that section of the forum is very busy.
