Question [SOLVED] Remove Search and Destroy?

I noticed something in the first step when asking for assistance with a HJT log "This Add or Remove Programs entry corresponds to a program that is either malware, installs malware, or is bundled with malware.

To my surprise Search and Destroy was listed, my question is simply this and forgive me if I sound naive.

Does that mean to uninstall SpyBot S&D?

Your assistance is much noticed and appreciated.

Re: Remove Search and Destroy?

hmm. I don't see any search and destroy program listed there..

And if it is indeed listed, it's definitely not spybot.

O.K. here is the link where I saw search and destroy listed as a program that should be removed. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/unin...llentries.html

And I do realize that this link is not a part of techsupportforum but the link I clicked on to end up there was in this forum and this is where it can be found here http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

Look where it says "For a more complete list, please use this resource."

Thanks again in advance.

Re: Remove Search and Destroy?

Search and Destroy is NOT the same as Spybot Search & Destroy.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/unin...d-Destroy.html

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/unin...stroy-1.4.html

Spybot Search & Destroy is now at version 1.5 and is well known, and legit.

Exact names are important.

Re: Remove Search and Destroy?

Thanks for the quick response, Sorry if it seemed I lacked any relevant information or did not provide the complete program name.

The only information I had to go on within the column of "Search and Destroy" was the following.

Name Status Description
Search And Destroy Unwanted Add or Remove Programs entry for Search And Destroy.

Thanks again my question was answered!

Re: Remove Search and Destroy?

No problem.

The ampersand - "&" - is always part of the legit Spybot Search & Destroy name.

Searching for Search and Destroy at the BC resource shows one as unwanted, and the other as legit.

Code:
Search And Destroy Unwanted Add or Remove Programs entry for Search And Destroy.
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 Legitimate Add or Remove Programs entry for Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4. Spybot Search and Destroy removes spyware from your computer. ... Read More

Following the links to each shows more detail, as I've given in my last post.

Alternatively, if you'd searched for "Spybot", you'd have come up with these results:

Code:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 Legitimate Add or Remove Programs entry for Spybot - Search & Destroy. Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not ... Read More
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 Legitimate Add or Remove Programs entry for Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4. Spybot Search and Destroy removes spyware from your computer. ... Read More
SpyWatchE Unwanted Add or Remove Programs entry for SpyWatchE. TheSpyBot is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays misleading and exaggerated results. ... Read More
TheSpyBot Unwanted Add or Remove Programs entry for TheSpyBot. TheSpyBot is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays misleading and exaggerated results. ... Read More
