[SOLVED] AVG V8 uninstall
I have just tried to upgrade from free AVG 7.5 to free AVG 8 and have experienced the install hanging. I rebooted the machine (Dell laptop running XP Pro) and saw the an old copy of 7.5 was still in the program list as well as a copy of V8 (which was much smaller at 28mb), so I unistalled 7.5 and tried to uninstall V8 to start the install clean. When it got to "Uninstalling .... file avgpp.dll: creating backup... it stopped responding.
I closed it down through task manager, rebooted and tried again. I am now worried I have no virus protection Can anyone tell what I am doing wrong? |

Re: AVG V8 uninstall
Hello Steven, Welcome to TSF!
![]() You need to totally uninstall both versions of AVG™; then, perform a 'clean' installation of AVG™8. I suggest that you download a 'new' copy of AVG8 and 'save' it to the desktop, rather than use the "Open" or "Run" options. Once you have downloaded the fresh copy of AVG8, disconnect from the Internet and uninstall the previous versions of AVG, then reinstall the program using the 'new' download. When it is installed, reconnect to the Internet and allow AVG to update its definition files. Give this a try and post back with the results. Kind Regards,

Re: AVG V8 uninstall
Thanks for the advice but the problem was that I couldn't uninstall because the AVG toolbar dll locked it. I have subsequently been able to get round that by moving the dll from the AVG directory onto the desktop which then let me uninstall AVG. I have now reinstalled but this time round, I switched off the AVG toolbar because this seems to be the problem

Re: AVG V8 uninstall
Hi Steven,
Am I to presume that AVG™ is now fully operational (minus the toolbar)?
