Zinaps

im having a problem where it says:
"your computer is infected!
Windows has detected spyware infection.

It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss.

Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you.

Click here to protect your computer from spyware."

and then if i click the message, a program called "zinaps anti spyware" installs itself and it doesnt really go away even when i hit uninstall. its folder isnt found in program files either.

If anyone can help me, Id really appreciate it.

it cant be found in program files folder, the list in "add/remove prgrams" and theres a folder in the registry "zinaps7" a friend of mine says something about system32 but i generally dont know what to do.

Re: Zinaps

Hi, welcome to TSF

It looks like you might have installed some rogue software, meaning the program you installed that claims to be antispyware is actually malware itself.

From http://profilesblog.com/?p=45
Quote:
Just got a report that this file called zinaps antispyware is going around downloading itself on various Pcs. There is very little information about zinaps anywhere, however it does look like it may be harmful. We believe that this so called antispyware is not an antispyware at all, rather it is a virus.

Here is a solution we had sent in to us if you get the Zinaps antispyware virus:

Quote:
First, I wen to Run: msconfig, and unchecked zinaps from the programs that were automatically starting up.

Second, I used the search function to find every program with “zin” in the file. I then deleted them all. After that, I was left with an empty “Zinaps’ folder in my start menu, and I removed that.

Third, I restarted my computer.
Don't follow the advice from the site above, unless one of our Security team says that's all you need to do. It's much better to let our analysts scan your computer for this and any other possible infections.

Please follow these instructions (5 pages) and post the requested logs in a new thread here.

The security forum is extremely busy, so please be patient and you will receive a reply as soon as possible. If you go to Thread Tools > Subscribe at the top of your new thread you will receive an email as soon as a reply is posted.
