Laugh Pc Newcomers - Security Advice - Hope This Helps

as a new comer to computing i have wasted a lot of money on useless/unsafe products . with the help of TSP i have been able to solve all the probs these commercial products created . if , like me , you are paranoid about computers/viruses/hackers/etc ( and who isn't . . . ) and don't want to get fooled again here is my combination of FREE programs which is 100% reliable and makes my machine stable . superantispyware , comodo firewall , avira antivir , atf cleaner , easycleaner ( BUT don't fiddle with registry - i did and i regretted it until tsf came to the rescue .)there are many other combinations but this one works for me on XP SP2 512 ram Emachines 3 years old . hope this helps u . regards peterlakey

Good choices, except the registry cleaner. We don't recommend their use, and it seems like you had some troubles with your registry.

yes I did use several registry cleaners-don't know if I'm allowed to say brand names but errorsmart and paretologic along with xp medic and myregistry cleaner were hopeless . ccleaner more intelligent but after being baled out by tsf following probs with these I've quit using them altogether and rely on good cleanliness and maintenance . ps Piriform's new defraggler is very good - more stable than Iobit Smart defrag . hope this helps . keep up the excellent work - we in the pc netherworld of dummy-dom need you . regards peter .

Re: Pc Newcomers - Security Advice - Hope This Helps

Hi Peter, I think my problem is with one of the registry cleaners, which after spending a few days reading through these forus, I will stay away from.

May I ask how you solved the problem with the registry?

Many thanks.

hello jellybellyjax - my problem surfaced when a registry cleaner wiped out all my audio/video codecs so that no media files would play . I also lost parts of video authoring software . Also unable to open previously ok files - mainly hi res photographs with adobe . to cure all this misery i had to do a complete registry - uninstall of the programs which were faulty - the windows removal left bits behind which fooled the pc . i had to ask TSF for an audio codec download which cured the media playback prob instantly . it was mainly a slow methodical systematic clean-removal and reinstall . had to totally disinfect drives of malware and defrag etc etc to ensure surgically clean pc . I will always use the tools prescribed by TSF from now on - they are free and they work !! I will not use reg cleaners - tempting but dangerous . . .
