AVG Version 8

I had a pop-up from AVG saying I need to download Version 8 to be up to date. I went to the link and found out I can have the best protection if I pay something like $59.99 a year for the service.

The reason I use AVG is because it is freeware. Are there any other freeware antivirus programs out there?

Here is the URL of the pop-up from AVG. Thanks.

Re: AVG Version 8

Your link is for the Pro version. There is a free version of AVG 8.0 at http://campaign.grisoft.com/ww.speci...02b-free78cnv/

Or if you want to switch to another antivirus, replacing AVG, try Avira Antivir (highly recommended freeware).

Re: AVG Version 8

Hi ikofun -

Personally, I prefer Avira as part of a free, multi-layered solution, but you'll find many here who stick by AVG even as it changes.

At the bottom of the link you give, you'll see there's a link to AVG 8 Free.

Quote:
If you’re happy to continue manually monitoring your online security and have created your own layered security approach, click here to add new AVG Free 8.0 to your security mix.
Of course, it takes you to a selection page, but the free version is there on the left.

Edit:

Heh, koala posted while I was grabbing a link for Avira
