Not sure if I even need malware removal assistance.
I am a near complete ignoramus about computers.
Yesterday, my computer was so slow, and a friend suggested that I delete all the temp files--yikes there were about 1500 of them! Then I discovered four that would not delete: DFA828.tmp, hpodvd09, hphtra07, perflib_perf. Googling those things got me here. I am up to step 3 of the 5 steps. I notice in the log that none of those files are mentioned? Should I complete all 5 steps? I use firefox. Do spyware blaster and IE-spyad help me? I am a professor and I'm embarrassed to say that not all of my documents are backed up. Feeling nervous and confused. Btw, computer seems to be running pretty well with all those temp files deleted, and a defragged hard drive. Thank you for your help. This place is cool. and puts me in a great mood the way that true community always does. |

Re: Not sure if I even need malware removal assistance.
If you want to try deleting all your temp files try booting windows in safe mode.
Or install and run CCleaner, which is an excellent (free) utility that helps tidy many temporary files etc: http://www.ccleaner.com/ As for Spyware removal, I would recommend to do a full system scan with each of "SpybotSD", "Lavasoft Adaware 2007", "A2Free" -All are free. ..but have not heard of the two you mentioned so would stay clear of them. Try switching to Mozilla Firefox for your web browsing as it is less prone to spyware infection than Internet Explorer. |

Re: Not sure if I even need malware removal assistance.
What is safe mode?
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question575.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode For Windows XP - as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" This brings you to the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key. (if you get a stuck key message tap the "F8 key" instead of holding it down) Good Luck |

Re: Not sure if I even need malware removal assistance.
@ simone23 -
If you're not experiencing any issue which make you think you're infected, there's no need to post logs in the malware removal section. Indeed, unless a set of logs looks infected, or a member has specific issues which seem to relate to an infection, a thread may not receive a reply, as we're just simply swamped there. If the machine seems to be running slow (though you say it is not, now) we have this topic: Is your PC running slow...? Those temp files seem normal to me. A tool such as ATF Cleaner, CleanUp or CCleaner should remove them. Quote:

Re: Not sure if I even need malware removal assistance.
Those temp files are normal, the hp* files relate to HP Digital Imaging Toolbox.
Nothing to worry about. Run a temp cleaning utility, or cleanmgr (Windows native tool)
