Re: Cannot uninstall ewido security?
My System WinXPHome. I deleted Ewido anti-spyware last October and installed Free AVG7.5 Anti-Spyware. I had Free AVG7.5 AntiVirus both working fine. Now AVG advises AVG8 (which includes AV & AS) and I note that the Ewido AS program has been taken over/repackaged by AVG as their AS program.
I downloaded the Free AVG8 and tried to install but an error message reported to first uninstall Ewido!! I can find no tract of Ewido except several entries in the Registry. I uninstalled the Free AVG7.5AV and 7.5AS and again tried to install AVG8 with same error message. So have re-installed AVG7.5 AV & AS from older back up set-up file copies and updated them. AS working now OK but AV working only partly and is not fully installed and suggestions are that the main file is too old, but I cannot now get latest copy of 7.5AV, though there do seem to be some 7.5 update bin files at AVG that I could try. But I really prefer to remove all traces of Ewido completely?? Should I back up the Registry and then delete all items in it referring to Ewido? Note Hijachthis program lists item O23 refers to C:\Program Files\ ewido anti-malware\ewidoctrl.exe (file missing). Any advice to get Free AVG8 operational please. ![]() |

Re: Cannot uninstall ewido security?
Just to advise that after a recommendation in the AVG Forum to make a Restore point then delete the folder line in the Reistry HKLM\Software\Ewido, then rebooted, then uninstalled AV7.5 AntiVirus and then AVG 7.5 AntiSpyware, I then installed AVG8 successfully. Success!
But Hijackthis still shows my above O23. error message of Ewido missing file. Maybe I could delete other Ewido entires in the Registry to clear this line and all Ewido info, but I will see how my system runs for a while before changing the Registry further. |

Re: Cannot uninstall ewido security?
The O23 line refers to a service which is still present.
Show the entire line, please.

Re: Cannot uninstall ewido security?
Thanks for your response - the complete Hijackthis O23 line is as follows:
"O23 - Service: ewido security suite control - Unknown owner -C:\Program Files\ewido anti-malware\ewidocrtl.exe (file missing)" Any advice on overcoming this O23 line?? Since deleting the registry folder as above, I note that a search in the Registry for Ewido still reveals about 4 other references that I could probably also delete. However, the AVG8 has installed and seems to be operating OK. But on a full system scan the scan stopped with a blue screen after about 35 mins advisng that the process was halted becasue something was trying to write to ROM - I didn't note the error code. Could this be a memory problem - I have 1GB?? Last edited by gestan1 : 05-10-2008 at 04:53 AM. |

Re: Cannot uninstall ewido security?
To remove that service, you could do this:
Go to Start > Run copy/paste the following then press Enter sc stop "ewido security suite control" Go to Start > Run copy/paste the following then press Enter sc delete "ewido security suite control" Seems you're comfortable in the registry, but beware! Always back up the registry before performing any manual changes. As far as issues with AVG goes, best ask them. Or, there's an AVG support forum here, which I think you've already visited.
