[SOLVED] AVG Virus Software
Hi, I wonder if you can help me.
Am running XP SP2, as administrator. Am trying to install AVG 8.0 and have followed the above very helpful post to the letter. However when I get to and accept the part about removing user settings, the install process stops and I get the following error message :- Local machine: installation failed Installation: Error: Action failed for registry value HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:AppInit_DLLs: creating registry value.... Error 0x80070005 Can you throw any light on this, and even offer a fix. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thank you. |

Re: AVG Virus Software
It might help if you do a complete "clean install".
First, make sure you have the new AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 installation file properly downloaded. Next, disconnect from the internet completely. Then, through your add/remove programs in the control panel (different in vista), un-install the current AVG Anti-Virus program. Once finished, then start installing the new program. Once fully installed, connect to the internet and update definitions, etc. Hope this helps. |

Re: AVG Virus Software
Hi guys, and thank you for the responses.
I am embarrassed to say that I had forgotten about this post, and have in fact now installed AVG8 ok, and it is performing as it should. The answer was as stated above..get rid of all traces of the previous version 7 ( and also some remnants of Avast hanging over from a couple of years back ), including entries in the registry. My apologies for not posting back earlier to say all was well. |
