Any Comments on Authentium AV

I am running "Authentium" computer protection / security software on my computer. It is provided by my ISP provided (Bigpond) & I am on trail use basis before I decide if I want to take the annual subscription.

It all seems fine, no problems so far - but am curious if anyone from the forum has heard of this software and any feedbacks, +ve or -ve, before I commit.

btw - I used to run PC-Cillin which was fine - but their 2008 version no longer supports Win 2000 which is my operating system - so I have had to migrate to another computer security system - hence ended taking up the Bigpond computer security option.

Hi
I haven't used authentium myself so i cannot comment on it.
AVG free edition will work on 2000 and can be found in the article in the link below.
I have used it for some time and have found it very good.

Re: Any Comments on Authentium AV

Does the "free ware" version of AV have regular updates so that it "keeps ahead" of the "latest scams"??

Yes - I use it and usually get an update every day (at least it seems like that...).

Re: Any Comments on Authentium AV

Soundz great - coz the commercial versions cost about $100 /yr for the annual update which includes virtually daily updates for AV and antispyware

I understand that there can be big problems in switching from one AV to anotyher unless the previous AV has been completely removed from the computer. And that some of the (even reputable) AV producers make it very hard to completely clean off their products.

Have you heard that this is an issue with AVG??

I've used AVG free for many years and never had any problems with it. The advice about ensuring you completely remove any existing AV before installing another is always good. I have no knowledge of Authentium though - the really hard ones to remove are things like Norton...

Re: Any Comments on Authentium AV

Tks for that - yes I had read some "horror stories" on the Forum where people have had loads of problems switching their AV.

As I mentioned - I had PC Cillin and it was both good and easy to remove (in fact only changed coz they no longer support Win 2000 & I am stuck with that O/S till new 'puter in July - and that was too long to go "naked" without any AV).

btw - How do the providers of free AV make a living?? - like who pays all the programming people to keep their AV antispyware etc up to date - sorry if I sound cynical - but all seems a little too good - coz from what I can understand - it is the constant updating of the software to deal with each new computer threat, that is an essential elemenbt of AV products??

Re: Any Comments on Authentium AV

There is usually a paid version available as well. It comes with a support function, often telephone, whereas the free versions do not. Many of these companies have a variety of products available to buy.

Re: Any Comments on Authentium AV

You're right
I checked AVG web site - their full paid version is 'bout $AUD102 for 2 years - great value (1/2 price of what I am using now) and with a Aust based supoport site - real time (zone) help is a major bonus

I think I will look at swapping to AVG as soon as my current subsription comes to an end.
