Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition any good?
My school is offering this antivirus software free for all students but I am not sure how good it is. I currently use avast! security and have been pretty happy with it so far. Please let me know, thanks!

Re: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition any good?
imho, anything is better. Just go read their website (and various forums) about the problems that can happen just trying to completely get rid of it if you decide you don't like it or have problems.

Nothing wrong with giving it a try and see if it meets your needs. Free software is great but they do have their limitations. One thing to consider, since this copy is free, will there be a yearly subscription fee after this year?

Use Mcafee or Norton if you want your computer to run at 1/4 of the speed you have now. They both have abot 10 processor intensive programs running in the background.

If you have a super fast CPU, 2 gigs or more of ram and a SATA2 HD, you may not notice the loss of CPU cycles or amount or ram your system is giving up to the programs. (see the above quote) On less powerful systems, using either of the mentioned programs is like hauling two tons of lead around in your 1/4 ton pickup. It may still be drivable but performance will suffer greatly. ![]() Just yesterday, I removed Norton AV from a ladies PC. It was a 4 yr. old Dell, with a not-too-fast CPU, 512megs of ram and an IDE HD, running Windows XP/SP2. Her subscription to Norton was about to run out and they wanted to charge her something like $79 to renew. She was more than willing for me to remove Norton and replace it with AVG 7.5 FREE (my own personal favorite AV package). With some further tweaking and cleaning, her little underpowered PC was soon running and responding twice as fast as before. ![]() She was delighted! ![]() After doing the Un-Install of Norton, I did run the latest version of the "Norton Removal Tool". I still had to manually delete some folders. ![]() So, bottom line, if it's FREE you're looking for and you want to keep your system running like a real computer, then skip Norton and go right for one of the afore-mentioned FREE AV programs. (AVG 7.5 FREE or Avast) God, I do love FREE! ![]() Good Luck and Happy Computing, The Shadow
