wowfx.dll Error Need Help Please

Hello there,

I'm trying to fix my cousins computer at the moment and am having a bit of trouble with it. He had this virus that would bring up this "Win Reanimator" program which to him wasnt a big enough deal to go in and take care of the problem at the time. He waited till he couldnt use his computer at all...well some time has passed since then and now he has a pretty annoying bug on his computer "wowfx.dll". The location of the file i "windows/system32/wowfx.dll" I did a search on the web looking for information about it and couldnt find much to be honest so I was hoping maybe some one here could help me out.

The virus will not let him open the internet. and the error message that says "....windows/system32/wowfx.dll is not a valid windows image..." Im not sure as I am on my computer now but it is word for word those lines some where in the middle of the error message. It also wont let him open the task manager or a few other programs. His computer really wont let me do anything when not running safe mode so I cant really look into it to much. Anyway if there is any other information you would like to know just ask.

I know your going to ask me to download a bunch of stuff so if you could just hook me up with the links Ill just post the logs for you.

Thanks In Advance,
Mike

Re: wowfx.dll Error Need Help Please

G'Day Mike,

Your problem is 'Security' related, so I will transfer this thread to the General Computer Security forum, where you will have a better chance of one of the Security Team guys/girls looking at it.
In the meantime, here's the best way to 'repair' this issue...

I recommend that you read this article… "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Kind Regards,
