Question Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

I doing this on behalf of a friend who 'hardly' has a computer at this moment... it takes forever to load new windows and change tasks... 9/10 wont open Internet. She is also unable to type replys on forums.. She said to me she has to hit the key 3-4 times before a letter appears...
I have directed her to all of the 5 steps here but she cant even get a scan done now... The computer just freezes...

This started when she was on MSN messenger and 'stupidly' clicked on a pop up of some sort saying "is this you" and directed her to 'YOYOHOST'... At that very moments she was inundated with problems... The sad thing is
she's a single mum with 2 children and is so upset that all of her kids photos etc are going to be lost.. She didn't back them up and is kicking herself for it...
Not trying to give you a sob story just want to express the urgency!!!

Her computer would not allow her to run vundofix but she did run smitfraud successfully in safe mode but nothing changed...
She cant get online to run an internet scan at all now...
Her Normal AV which is NOD32 will not scan as it crashes... She was trying to download AVG but computer freezes up....
Can you understand our frustration ????

What should i do?
Should i post a hijack this log in the other section or has anyone come across the same problems with this YOYOHOST thing...

Your help would be so appreciated.... I wouldn't be able to thank you enough...

kind regards x x

Re: Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

welcome to TSF,
you are doing the correct thing by following the 5 steps. when your computer is infected, it doesnt cooperate.
this is not the place to post your hijackthis. there is a dedicated hijackthis forum, just click on security center (above). you'll find it.
have you tried to scan with nod32 in safe mode? do you have any other security programmes that you can scan in safe mode with?

remember it's a bad idea to have 2 real-time antivirus programmes running at the same time. when i do this, i need to pause protection with my AV. did you pause nod32 when you tried this?
i hope you get your computer back to normal, and don't lose your pictures. i think those instant messenger programmes are a bad idea. stay right here at TSF and avoid those dirty tricks.

Re: Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

Thanks' for your reply....

Safe mode plays up also.... she ran smitfraud on advice of her brother but it came up with nothing...
Couldn't run vundofix yesterday and when she ran her AV it was at 35% and the puter froze up.... there are obviously serious issues going on but when i try and post for help in the hijack this section and post a log, both threads i have started have been deleted or god knows what....
I've posted it again so hopefully i can get some kind of idea how to help her...

Thanks again

Re: Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

essjay, you now have 2 HJT threads for the same problem, with a third deleted for being a duplicate. Please be patient and a reply will be posted as soon as possible. The security forum is extremely busy and there are hundreds of log files to be analysed.

04-11-2008: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...have-look.html
Today: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...ne-please.html

Neither of these threads have all the requested logs from these 5 pages of instructions. Are you having trouble running any of the scans?

FORUM RULES

MULTIPLE POSTING

This refers to posting the same question or same replies in multiple areas of the site (also called flooding). Please only post only once. If you feel you have posted in the wrong forum, contact a Moderator or Manager, who will move the post for you. This also includes the creation of multiple new threads on the same or similar topics and sending PM's continuously to one or more Staff members.
While I'm sure you're just trying to get attention, you have to realize that there are also hundreds of other people all in need of help also. Many of them are patiently waiting their turn, and have followed the full procedures we request. We do understand that in some cases, not all steps will be able to be performed, but if you can run HijackThis, you can run Deckard's System Scanner, which is much more comprehensive.

There are hundreds of members in need of help, and only a handful of us volunteers.

Stick to this one thread,

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...ml#post1424468

Post a set of logs from Deckard's System Scanner as stated in the 5 Step thread.

Re: Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

essjay,
i did notice that you have spy sweeper, webroot, spyware doctor, and AVG in your log along with ESET suite. maybe the AVG didn't download, but it shows in the log. i know first hand that spy sweeper conflicts with programmes, because i had it for 2 years. i had to uncheck the box on the startup list and use it for on-demand scans only in safe mode. if i didn't, my computer would freeze up. the spyware doctor may be causing the same type of conflict. i use 1 real-time AV and 1 firewall. i scan in safe mode with antispyware programmes. sometimes "less is more".

Re: Virus through MSN (YOHOHOST)... PLease Help!!!

A big thankyou, but the issue is now resolved....
This 'whatever is was' has completely taken over her puter and she cant download or scan anything without it freezing....
I told her about running too many AV's but the damage is done i think....
Safe mode is also no good.....
She is installing a new hard drive and has FORTUNATELY been able to save all of her kiddies photos to disk....

Thank's again.... x x
