What is "extended download service" from zonealarm?

I'm trying to buy the zonealarm Internet security suite and on the website it automatically included an "extended download service" cost $6.95.
I know I can uncheck it, I just want to know what is this "extended download service is.
I copy this from zonelarm's website:

Extended Download Service

The Extended Download Service (EDS) costs $6.95 USD in addition to price of the products purchased on the same order.

ZoneAlarm offers the EDS as an optional extra service. If you choose to add EDS to your order, you will be able to download the software you have purchased for a period of one year after the date of purchase. If you do not purchase EDS, you will be able to download the software you have purchased for 30 days from the date of purchase.

Benefits

Always have access to a complete, current installation of your security products
Be able to reinstall software after a computer or hard drive crash
Move your software to a new computer easily (you must have a valid license for each computer)
To access the EDS, log in to your account, click on "View Order History," then on "View Details." Your software will be available with a simple click of the "Download Again" button.

Do I really need this? Are they trying to sell me something that I really don't need? If I reformat my PC, couldn't I write down my license key and download zonealarm again from their website?
