i m new to all these things so pl guide me:

i hv a laptop with window xp sp2. my automatice windows update was on n i regularly got updates from windows n microsoft websites automatically downloaded n installed.
one day i found problem with the Search option saying some dll file missing. i asked the comp guy to fix this problem. he inserted the windows xp cd n ran setup. however instead of reinstalling he simply selected repairing n within few minutes everything was up. but he said that the OS is in the original state when it was installed.
soon i rcvd the alert that updates are downloaded ready to install. when i double clicked the balloon n tried to install them it showed 72 updates downloaded. installing in process...
but soon after that i rcvd a message that the updates could not be installed. since then i m not able to install any of the updates that automatically get downloaded to my system.
even if i go to microsoft website to download n install updates it asks me to check the genuinity of the OS and asks to register the OS on the MS website. if i ignore this message, i see a msg that updates already installed pending for installation. if i click on install it does not get installed.

When a Repair installation is done it repairs the original installation but DOES NOT Reinstall any updates that have been done.
You need to install all the critical security updates and the only way Microsoft will let you is that you MUST PASS the Windows Genuine Advantage check so you have to do the check and not ignore it.
