URGENT: Help needing in combatting this nasty virus problem of mine.
Well I must post about my problem here and someone should help me, else I consider giving up soon and consider my system done for and resort to getting my brother to reformat my HD and reinstalling Windows XP.
Yes it's this bad even though whatever's been holding my computer hostage doesn't seem capable of destroying all my files. The symptoms I've been exhibiting are mainly that I seem to be unable to run and install just about any antivirus software. I can't install AVG or other well known free antivirus programs and my Norton Antivirus has been disabled. When I try to install any antivirus, I always get some form of error, most notably "...is not a valid Win32 application" errors. That's the kind of error I got when I tried to run Norton. BTW, my Norton Antivirus obviously didn't detect this incoming problem as its virus definitions were outdated because my subscription was long expired. But another symptom that I exhibited was that my computer automatically reboots itself when I run one of my 3d modeling applications, though that's not the only occasion it reboots itself. Probably when I ran too many programs at a time, it also rebooted without warning. So I had to resort to online virus scanning first. I used Kaspersky, BitDefender, and Panda. These seemed to help to an extent, though I still cannot install my antivirus apps. While using BitDefender, it identified a few types of viruses/worms/trojans as it destroyed them. One I remember was W32 Bagle, though I can't remember what the other ones were. Panda also detected and deleted 4 viruses and it also found alot of spyware and two unknown suspicious programs. So I googled and googled for tips on combatting virus issues like what I have, but I eventually thought it would be best for me to post the problem on a forum like this and wait for someone to give me feedback. I also found a program called SuperAntiSpyware which although a 30-day trial, didn't seem to fall victim to the virus like the antivirus programs I have. That also helped with the spyware. It also detects stuff like trojans and worms. I also found something odd whenever I'm in the process of shutting down or manually rebooting my comp. Whenever I'm in that process, a window titled "End Program - hldrrr.exe" comes up. I canceled that "End Program" process and went to my task manager. But I found no program titled "hldrrr" on the list of running processes/programs. Strange. I decided to google for this program and found out that this was a trojan or virus of some sort that had to do with antivirus programs being rendered useless. Also when SuperAntiSpyware runs on startup it automatically detects and blocks another strange .exe file whose name starts with a "w." It even listed the path to that .exe file, though that same file wasn't there in the directory that the path led me to. I think it's probably WINDOWS/system32. So anyway I need someone to PLEASE shed some light on my problem here and kindly instruct me on how to solve it so I can finally install my antivirus software. This thing is really making me lose my patience and it has to stop somehow. I tried to run Windows in Safe Mode so I can install AVG, but the computer reboots itself whenever I try to run Safe Mode! |
