Firstly, I've googled many web pages for my symptoms and found them to be similar to the MS Blaster Worm..
The problems seemed to start around about when I downloaded a DVD torrent and about the same time my AV STOPzilla auto-updated, My start up time of the PC is extremely slow, Once it finally gets up, it appears to be in windows classic appearance and the taskbar is minimized out of the screen, then a dialog box appears stating something like "Windows Defender Application failed to initialize 0x800106ba yadda yadda", then shortly after another one appears stating that "SHUTDOWN WAS INITIATED BY NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEMS Windows must now restart because the RPC (Remote Procedure Call)service terminated unexpectedly. Then 60 seconds later it shuts down but freezes when it gets to the Saviig your Settings part of shutdown. I found that every couple of minutes when it comes up I can use a command "SHUTDOWN -A" to stop it, But many more problems are occuring such as, I can't do a system restore, I can't ADD/REMOVE Programs, I can't get programs like NERO EXPRESS to run as it comes up with "an error using COM/OLE occurs. Please check the installation of COM on your computer", I also can't connect to the internet because when I click IE icon the browser comes up for half a second then dissapears..I can't even get into the security center or firewall settings.. I'm using Windows XP SP2, PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! |

Re: RPC terminated unexpectedly and others problems
charjon,
a couple of things you posted jump out at me. Quote:
2. is STOPzilla actually a legitimate programme, or rogue? check www.spywarewarrior.com to see if it is. it's highly likely that you're infected. there are several tutorials on the top of each webpage here in the security center. you should read them. here's a couple that most likely apply to your problem. i wish i could help you more, but i am not quite advanced enough at this time. Re: RPC terminated unexpectedly and others problems
Thanks for the replys,
The first thing I did was run AVG AntiVirus Pro and it found 9 threats, It removed 3 and quarantined 6, after reboot, When the dialog box stating that windows is shutting down because the RPC terminated unexpectedly I run the command "SHUTDOWN -A" which usually prevents the shutdown now appears to do nothing and computer continues the 60sec countdown till it shutsdown... ???? |

Re: RPC terminated unexpectedly and others problems
Hey i have a similar problem with the original the topi opener. I have gone to your link and tried to go through the steps, but the problem is with the rpc service crashing, it made almost all the other services not working. hence, i can't even go through most of then. I can't even get online. (i'm using my laptop now) It shutsdown in 60 sec but i hacked my way around it by changing the date back a day.
![]() This happened after I tried to update Stopzilla. I can't even uninstall my programs because rpc made my services not work. I am working on windows xp sp 3. I dont have any illegal softwares on my computer. I really don't want to reinstall windows.. Thank you for reading, and sorry for bumping a dead thread. (I wasn't sure if i have make a new thread or not) |
