Mysterious AVG and freezing issue.

I've recently been confronted with a problem on my computer.
It came up randomly, after shutting my computer off for the night and turning it on again in the morning.

When I started it that morning, it took a million years for any of my startup programs to show up in the taskbar and start running. One of the things that DIDN'T start, was my AVG anti-virus thinghummabobber.

Upon watching my Task Manager, I noticed that the programs that were open would stop responding for awhile, and start again. Which is odd because barely anything was open, and I wasn't doing anything with them. Just watching. The CPU usage goes to 100% for long enough to make things go insanely slow, then goes back to normal for a bit. Then repeats.

I noticed if I end task of all my AVG stuff (it appears to be running in the task manager, but doesn't load up at all), my computer runs fine. If I start it again, it spazzes out as it did before and doesn't open. I give up and end task again. This is a problem to me, because I hate surfing the interwebs without my computer condom.

I ran spybot, found things, fixed them, ran disk cleanup, then restarted, but to no avail.
There are some things in my task manager that I'm not -too- familiar with, but don't seem way suspicious either. If you think a screencap is necessary, I will do so.

Otherwise Google and the AVG website has done nothing for me, so I'm wondering, does anyone here know how to surpass this mysterious culprit? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Mysterious AVG and freezing issue.

G'Day blik, Welcome to TSF!

Firstly, I think you need to go here and download AVG™ again and start a re-installation. (Click the coloured link.)
However, AVG™ is smart enough to detect your current installation, and give you the option to Repair Installation; select this and ley it do its thing.
Once done I'd suggest that you let AVG™ do a full system scan.

Lastly, I recommend that you read this article… "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Kind Regards,
