Norton Issues
I'm not sure if this is technically a security issue, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.
At Christmas, I got rid of my old modem in favour of a Netgear wireless modem router, but left my old modem plugged in. It was working fine for a few days, but when I removed the old modem (which was olny plugged into the computer, not the phone line or router), I couldn't access secure websites or use my MSN Messenger/ Explorer. I also noticed that this was the day that my Norton Internet Security 2007 subscribtion ran out. Are any of these likely to prevent access to secure websites or MSN? Any help appreciated. (PS Internet and MSN working fine on my wireless laptop, and Norton will not let me run any scans or change any settings) If I need to update Norton, I would rather buy another program, as this is not the first time I have had issues with Norton. What alternatives can you recommend? |

Re: Norton Issues
Hi Chris,
If you decide to remove Norton from your PC, you are going to need their removal tool. The built -in remover that comes with their programs does not remove all the registry entries and other 'junk' associated with the program. Norton Removal Tools can be found on the Norton website. (Click on the colured link to be re-directed to the Norton Site.) Once that's done, I would recommend replacing it in the interim with AVG™ Anti Virus Free Edition, unless you wish to jump in and purchase a full licence for the Professional Edition. The reason I recommend AVG™, is that apart from it being a very user friendly program, and not a resource hog, it is very reliable..I have had it for the last 5 years and wouldn't change for anything else. Having said that, this is my opinion, and I am quite sure that others have their own ideas/recommendations too. Perhaps a look here might be worth your while. Post back with your thoughts. Kind Regards,
