Angry my computer is a mess

i have some kind of malicious program. my avg anti spyware doesnt detect it,and my pc tools antivirus doesnt. but i know its there because my home page changes. also every time i try to down load a removal tool, i get kicked off line. i have dialup. i have like 14 updates for my computer that i cant download. i spoke with a computer guy today that says i need to wipe every thing off my computer and start over. i really dont want to do that. im an amature, so im not real smart about computers.
please someone help me!

in the security center section features several sticky/tutorials that are loaded with info that you need. here's a couple that will help you out the most:

just keep in mind that antivirus scanners will conflict with eachother, and the same with antispyware scanners. many of the most popular programmes are a combination of AV and AS. you may need to pause protection from both your AV and AS. just remember to resume protection when you're finished.
