[SOLVED] virus in archives

hello all. I've just dld'd 2 files, a .rar and a .zip. Now On scanning with my AVG free they both contain Trojan.KillAV. but I can't open the zip/rar files to get to the infected file inside and so move it to the vault [they are both unhealable] I'm stuck on what to do here so any help would be apreciated. Thanks.

Re: virus in archives

Are the files downloaded from a reputable site or via P2P?

Re: virus in archives

They were torrents. Ironically they're both AVG apps.

Re: virus in archives

Delete the zip/rar files, reboot and run some full system scans. Sorry, but we can't offer any more advice for illegally downloaded files. Please read the forum rules.

Re: virus in archives

Forgetting my last post would simply deleting the archives get rid of the virus. I wouldn't want to inadvertantly activate them.

Re: virus in archives

AVG Pro apps are not free and are not officially distributed via torrents. You are downloading illegal files, the kind which are often infected.

Delete the zip/rar files, reboot and run some full virus and spyware scans.

Re: virus in archives

I appreciate what you're sayingand i was merely experimenting with torrents and now i've been bitten. I put the 2 infected files into one folder and deleted it. Obviously the folder is in the recycle bin and i'm scanning now. Nothing has come up yet but the recycle bin would be one of the last to be scanned.
I know i've been evil in what i've done but your help is much needed otherwise i'm stuck

Re: virus in archives

The best thing to do is to empty the recycle bin to get rid of the files, then run the scans.

Let us know the results. If they're bad, follow the instructions here (5 pages) and then post all the requested logs in a new thread here for the security analysts to look at.
