Norton Rescue Disk 2006 unable to remove

I have tried to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2006 but keep getting message "Norton Rescue disk" is still in system as I am trying to install McAfee VirusScan Plus 2008. I am currently using Windows XP and have previously contacted Symantec who gave me a link to a removal tool and an auto tool both of which could not remove the Norton Rescue Disk.

Please help as I'm at my wits end.

Hi wen24, Welcome to TSF!

The only successful way to remove any Norton® product, is with their own 'removal tools'.

Click on the coloured link for the Norton® Removal Tool.
Give it a try and post back with the results.

I have the same problem. I used Symantec's removal tool with no success.

I know this is a late post, but I found this forum searching for this problem and what I eventually ended up doing was running regedit and searching the registry for "Norton Rescue", then renaming the Key to "Norton zRzezscue", McAfee installed and I renamed the key back to "Norton Rescue" and it's GTG.

Of course I know this may cause some issues...but it hasn't for me.

I think this is a work around for the Norton/McAfee cold war.... if you know what I mean.
